Thinking of Becoming An Entrepreneur?
Thinking of becoming an entrepreneur but not sure what it takes or have gotten lost in the details? Before considering entrepreneurship, it is important to understand the mindset required.
Entrepreneurs are often known as risk-takers, but it’s more about calculated risk than throwing caution to the wind. Budding entrepreneurs need guidance to take the right steps to avoid costly lawsuits and lost investments. Were you the young kid on the corner selling lemonade? Do you hate taking direction from your boss? Are you never feeling satisfied? If you’ve answered yes to these questions, you’re likely an entrepreneur at heart. If you answer yes to more than 80% of the questions below, it may be time to take the leap to and start your own company.
Is Entrepreneurship For You?
- I enjoy challenges
- I have an innovative mindset when it comes to solving problems
- I get excited when I have an opportunity to overcome obstacles
- I can handle making my own schedule and sticking to it
- I am surrounded or have surrounded myself with business owners
- I rarely find satisfaction or feel complacent with the status quo.
- I have a need to win.
- I would rather attempt to run my own business and it fails, than be the best at working for someone else.
- I generally have better ideas for accomplishing tasks than my current employer does.
- I can negotiate for myself
- I have fun being the devil’s advocate for traditional ideas
- I have the ability to command rather than demand attention to my ideas
- Making a sale is an amusing accomplishment for me.
- I’m good at getting people together
- I like to fill my free time with side projects to make extra money
- I tend to get a good response to my ideas when talking about them publicly
- I’ve been told I am a good leader
- I find it easy to speak my ideas
- I prefer to take action rather than over-plan
- I am disciplined when it comes to crossing off tasks on my list
If you’ve been screaming YES to most of these, it’s time to look at what type of business to start. Our best advice: do what you already know and love rather than investing in a course to learn something new or worse, get sucked into an MLM. Although it has become popular and seems easy to join an MLM that promises the benefits of entrepreneurship, it involves no innovation or true ownership and is known to harm valuable relationships. Some of the most common forms of online business involve: Creating art, teaching or consulting on a topic you have years of experience in, dropshipping items, and working as an affiliate.
In addition to having the drive to be an entrepreneur, you also need the mindset, to begin with. Commonly shared beliefs and attitudes between entrepreneurs are innovative thinking, desire for a challenge, negotiating skills and finding pleasure in achieving results. Entrepreneurship has obstacles and sometimes the only thing that will keep you going is your ambition to have the freedom or income you deserve.
Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t, so you can spend the rest of your life living like most people can’t.
